Job Introduction

The Signage Manager will manage the production and installation process of in-store signage, branding and wayfinding (permanent, lit, vinyl) across all Selfridges’ stores from design through to delivery or installation, to given budgets and timelines, while adhering to the Selfridges strategy, brand values and business objectives. They will liaise and work closely with: Store Graphic Design and Production Teams, Visual Projects and Creative Presentation (VM) Teams. 

 A focus of this role is around fostering cross-departmental relationships and act as an ambassador for the team, internally across the business and externally across suppliers and creatives

The role is essential in continuing to build Selfridges creative reputation through innovative, exceptional quality signage and branding. Key focus areas are day-to-day and project-based signage production, budget, suppliers, sustainability, and people. 

As the Signage Manager you will: 

  • Support the Creative Presentation team daily, and update vinyl branding (cut, weed, install), in line with regular floor moves, across London.
  • Liaise with and provide on-going support to the regional Creative Presentation (VM) teams, to manage their store wayfinding system, vinyl and any permanent signage and branding. Provide artwork files and templates.
  • Visit the stores regularly. Oversee in-coming vinyl signage and branding briefs, using the company’s cloud-based work operating system, Monday.com. 
  • As well as via ad-hoc requests from the Creative teams and wider business, as required. 
  • Manage all stores wayfinding system. Oversee any artwork changes. Work closely with the retail team to update changes. Carry out brand logo signage studies. 
  • Feedback recommended sizing to Creative Presentation, Visual Projects and Property teams Be a guardian of the brand, and undertake regular floor walks with team to manage and uphold signage standards, and ensure guidelines are met.
  • Feedback to the wider business or stakeholders, managing expectations while being held accountable that all production timelines and budgets are met. Coordinate deliveries, book in and oversee installation of signage, from vinyl through to permanent lit signage. 
  • Oversee overnight and pre-opening installs, manage teams on site, and ensure all signage, branding and wayfinding is delivered to the business’ creative standard and expectation. Troubleshoot and ensure stakeholders are aware of any issues post install. Manage the day-to-day running of the signage studio. Oversee maintenance of Vinyl plotters, large format printers, 
  • Ordering supplies, managing POs and liaising with suppliers. Work closely with the Property team. Manage temporary vinyl messaging on hoardings. Work closely with the Senior Designer Manager to check brandd esigned hoarding proposals. Work closely with other Production Team members across the business ensuring an aligned creative output – within Visual Projects, Windows, Creative Presentation – and play a key part in larger projects and spaces such as The Corner Shop, The Art Block, and other activations
  • Work with Senior Management to set out annual budget, and review budget monthly with the Finance Team. Manage the Signage and Ticketing budget and tracker and update the relevant business partners within Finance should there be any risks to costs
  • Work with Signage Manufacturers, request quotes, check over drawings prior to putting into production, liaising with Graphic Design Team
  • Manage the two Signage Coordinators on a day-to-day basis

To be successful you will have: 

  • Experience within the field of graphic design (or another creative field – VM, fashion) within an in-house design team or at an agency. Management/Project Management experience is essential. 
  • An understanding of types of signage – vinyl, lit, wayfinding 
  • Experience with managing a heavy workload, multi-tasking, juggling numerous projects at any one time
