Womenswear Luxury Designer Buyer

Job Introduction

When it comes to our products, we like to make sure our customers are spoilt for choice. So whether it involves the latest and greatest products or keeping popular items on the shelves, join us in the role of Buyer for our Designer galleries and it will be you that makes sure we’re always fully stocked.

Role Responsibility

Responsible for our Designer galleries, you’ll source both new brands and products and manage existing ones including Balmain, Gucci and Celine.

A keen negotiator, you’ll make sure that we never pay over the odds for new stock - perhaps you’ll even be able to engineer trade discounts or markdowns. Either way, you’ll ensure that all buying decisions are based on a sound commercial framework and have the capacity to drive sales and profits.

Working closely with the Merchandiser, you’ll review the performance of both new and existing brands and make recommendations to the Buying Manager where necessary. On top of that, you’ll also work with departments including Visual Merchandising, PR and Marketing to make the most of any promotional opportunities that crop up.

The Ideal Candidate

With a solid understanding of the luxury market, you’ll be able to apply your commercial know-how to sourcing the hottest new brands and products. Numerate and personable, negotiating deals with suppliers will be a breeze, and your creative flair will help you work successfully with marketing to launch new products and brands. If you can add to that a good knowledge of PC systems, a can-do attitude and excellent communication skills, then this role could really see you improve our customers’ shopping experience – not to mention our profits.

About the Company

Selfridges is a shop run on imagination: a place where the world’s most covetable brands combine with the most extraordinary spectacles, events and ideas for an experience like no other.

The story began when Harry Gordon Selfridge first arrived in London from Chicago in 1906 with his heart set on opening his dream store. With his revolutionary understanding of publicity and the theatre of retail, Selfridges Oxford Street opened its doors for the first time in 1909. The founder’s spirit of innovation and creativity lives on through its owners today. Since 2003, W. Galen Weston and his family have owned and operated the business, which now includes two stores in Manchester, one in Birmingham, plus selfridges.com and the Selfridges App which both deliver to over 130 countries.

In 2016 Selfridges was the first ever store to be awarded the title of ‘World’s Best Sustainability Campaign by a Department Store’ at the IGDS Global Department Store Summit, in-line with its focus on buying better and inspiring change. For an unprecedented three consecutive occasions in a row (2010, 2012 & 2014) Selfridges also won the coveted ‘Best Department Store in the World’ award, underlining its place at the forefront of retail.
