Role Responsibility

As a Wine Buyer, you will proactively source a unique portfolio of products by being aware of emerging trends, seeking out niche suppliers and developing exclusive relationships. As well as driving sales and maximising profitability, you will enhance the reputation of the Wineshop by working collaboratively with colleagues and concession partners. ​

As a Wine Buyer you will:​

  • Source new brands and products in line with strategy through knowledge and expertise of the products and market, ensuring buying decisions are based on a sound commercial framework to drive sales and profit. Negotiating the best possible terms with suppliers i.e. margin, trade discounts, markdown support ​

  • Work closely with the Merchandiser. Whether it’s range planning or monitoring and reviewing performance and stock in season, you’ll take action or make recommendations to the Buying Manager where necessary​

  • Manage product and brand performance (including concessions) through trade analysis, taking action when necessary ​

  • Ensure effective communication with retail operations teams, particularly with regard to new season launches and product training​

  • Collaborate with various functions, from VM to ensure optimal product placement to Marketing and PR to maximise promotional opportunities during negotiations with suppliers​

  • Liaise with Property to ensure new concepts are implemented effectively​

  • Be responsible for the ordering process within the area, ensuring compliance with all relevant processes ​

  • Manage and lead your team giving regular feedback and coaching. Recognising both talent and development areas, you will create unique plans to progress your team using the tools available​

The Ideal Candidate

  • Highly knowledgeable. You will have a well-developed understanding of the product/market as well as a proven track record in a successful wine or hospitality operation​

  • Strategic and operational. With strong analytical skills and experience driving long-term and profitable commercial strategies, you’ll be able to successfully manage projects through to completion. ​

  • Engaging. Able to influence your stakeholders, retail and brands, you know how to use both data and market trends to drive commercial opportunities ​

  • Customer focused. Combined with exceptional taste and instinct, you are able to push the boundaries to offer new and exciting produce​

  • All over the numbers. You are numerate with a highly commercial approach, as well as proficient in excel​

  • Collaborative. Working flexibly as part of the wider Food team you will support in projects and cross functional meetings as appropriate​
