Role Responsibility

To honor this year's Commonwealth Games (known as Birmingham 2022) we're collaborating with local communities on an exciting arts and events programme.

Birmingham 2022 has the biggest ever sports schedule in the event’s history, with 286 sessions across 11 days of live sport. We kicked off celebrations in April, when we welcomed the public to our Birmingham store to create handmade gifts using upcycled and locally sourced materials, as part of Craftspace’s 4,600 Gifts initiative. Now we’re teaming up with Fierce, Birmingham’s most daring contemporary arts festival, to shine a light on the city’s creativity.

Key To The City

The brainchild of artist Paul Ramírez Jonas, Key to the City is a public art project first released in New York in 2010, allowing the public to access exciting, unusual, and hidden locations across urban spaces. This year, Key to the City is in Birmingham and Selfridges is taking part.

Brought to life by Fierce, Key to the City invites you to discover 22 intriguing places across Birmingham, from private gardens to underground tunnels and even a locked museum drawer. Whether you’re exploring the city for the first time or want to gain a new perspective on the place you know and love, Key to the City is a fun way to see Birmingham in a new light.

We are looking for Store Host's to greet our Keyholders and provide them with an extraordinary Selfridges experience.

As a Host, you will be the expert for all things Selfridges and Key to the city; the go-to person to help our customers with their queries. Fully knowledgeable and understanding, it is your job to tell our customers all about the event and give them the best service that only Selfridges can offer.

The Ideal Candidate

  • A great communicator. You will be able to positively engage with all different types of customers (domestic and international) with varying needs and requirements
  • Well informed. Remaining continuously updated as to the store layout and services in order to be able to share the right information
  • Known to be a sales and service expert. You’ll need to use these skills to deliver the extraordinary each and every time and take the initiative to provide additional services where appropriate
  • Collaborative. You’ll work closely with team members to stay updated of key changes to store information and work together where required to exceed customer needs
  • Approachable. Providing our customers with warm and friendly interactions
  • A proud shopkeeper. You’ll celebrate everything about Selfridges and be keen to use this enthusiasm to engage and excite our customers
  • Problem solving skills. You’ll go above and beyond to resolve issues for our customers and be able to adapt your approach to each individual customer
  • An example of our values, a trusted and respected colleague
