Junior Copywriter

Role Responsibility

To support in the production of precise and consistent copy for online product, to enhance the unique Selfridges experience, which is in line with fulfilling Selfridges’ brand values and business objectives.

Support the Senior Copywriter and Content Management team to maintain a consistent tone of voice across the business, ensuring all communications are brand-enhancing and consumer-focused. Working alongside and collaboratively with wider business teams and stakeholders is an essential part of this role, so good communication and an ability to react to requests are necessary. An ability to work to tight deadlines within a very fast-paced environment are a must.

This role will suit someone who has a real interest in the power of words and who wants to work on a varied range of projects, from fashion and childrenswear to home, food and technology.

A meticulous eye for detail and a strong understanding of grammar and punctuation are necessities, along with an ability to manage a big workload. The nature of the role involves communication, so a confident, approachable and considerate character is an essential.  As a Junior Copywriter, you will:

  • Write up to 40 product descriptions a day across all departments, including Womenswear, Menswear, Home, Tech, Beauty, Food, Kids, Jewellery ​
  • Produce engaging, informative, and accurate copy in line with the Selfridges tone of voice and house style guides​
  • Conduct thorough brand and product research to inform your copy whilst working independently, delivering copy at pace to strict deadlines​
  • Manage your own workload, juggling researching brands/products with writing and uploading copy to meet strict deadlines while liaising daily with multiple teams on product workflow​
  • Liaise daily with the other teams on product workflow and brand information​
  • Conduct daily site walks to maintain quality and consistency ​
  • Respond to ad-hoc copy requests/queries from your line manager
  • Keep abreast of seasonal fashion trends and maintain good brand knowledge​
  • Work collaboratively with the rest of the Content team to continuously optimise and improve our product copy, always aiming to inform with creative and original product descriptions​

 

 

 

 

The Ideal Candidate

 

  • Experience in a journalism/copywriting/content role (may include relevant internships)
  • Microsoft word, PowerPoint, CMS experience is preferred.
  • Digital/Online retail knowledge
  • Knowledge of digital production process
  • Strong awareness of fashion, lifestyle, culture, and in-depth brand knowledge
  • Knowledge of SEO best practices
  • Experience using a CMS platform
  • PC literate in Outlook, Microsoft Word and Excel
