Health & Safety Manager (12 month FTC)

Role Responsibility

Reports to: Health & Safety Manager

 

Role Purpose: To support the Head of Health and Safety in leading the function across all areas of the organisation. To provide technical knowledge and leadership skills to improve knowledge, behaviours and ultimately safety and health standards.

 

KEY SKILLS AND AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Lead and Advise

 

  • Be accountable for delivering the H&S Strategy and the objectives of the safety function for 2024/25
  • Be responsible for assessing and continuing to improve safety, knowledge, behaviours and compliance throughout the organisation
  • Be responsible for supporting the Health and Safety Advisors and other key stakeholders with technical advice and knowledge

 

Influence and Engage

 

  • Support Managers and Heads of Departments to improve their knowledge and understanding of responsibilities relating to health and safety
  • Ensure the H&S function engages with key stakeholders to positively influence the H&S behaviours of their teams
  • Maintain awareness of changes within current Health & Safety legislation to ensure continued compliance and ensure up to date advice and support is delivered
  • Liaise with and continue to enhance relationships with relevant enforcing authorities

 

Reporting

 

  • Regularly report to key stakeholders (Managers and heads of departments), discussing findings following data analysis and the impact on their activity – lowering risks, increasing knowledge and improving behaviours and performance
  • Oversee analysis of data from both leading and lacking indicators and ensure regular reporting for all stores and areas of the business is delivered

 

Training

 

  • Ensure the training plan is embedded in the relevant areas of the business  
  • Ensure the delivery of training against the plan, delivered both via the internal H&S team and third parties;
  • Ensure training meets compliance requirements
  • Review the effectiveness of the training and ensure it enhances behaviours and performance

 

The Ideal Candidate

Qualifications/ Training:

  • NEBOSH Diploma, NVQ or equivalent
  • Membership of IOSH or IIRSM

Experience:

  • Retail experience is advantageous but not essential
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment, undergoing change and growth

Technical Skills:

  • Use of MS Office
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Health and Safety legislation

 

Personal Attributes/ Behavioural Skills:

  • Strong at building working relationships with key stakeholders across all levels – highly approachable and a strong communicator with the ability to influence behaviours
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines in a very fast paced environment
  • Highly self-motivated individual with strong prioritisation skills
  • Flexible approach to suit the needs of the business with a high level of care taken in each task
  • Strong team player but can also work autonomously to deliver results
  • Passionate about Health, Safety and Retail

 

Selfridges operates a flexible approach to remote working for most Head Office functions. The Health and Safety team currently work in this way with regular time spent in the physical stores and Head Office spaces.
