Role Responsibility

As Head of Design, you will be responsible for the definition, development and execution of brand and campaign design across multiple touchpoints. Working together with the Head Of Digital Design and Director Of Multimedia Creative, you will develop and create a bench-mark setting brand – with a strong fashion-led and user-centric aesthetic - to bring Selfridges unique personality to life.​

As Head of Design you will:​

  • Be an inspirational leader to our design team, responsible for design-driven briefs of varying size and ensuring they are delivered to your own high standards​

  • Work together with Head Of Digital Design and Director of Multimedia Creative to evolve the Selfridges design language and aesthetic. Creating design systems and brand guidelines that support our position as industry and cultural leaders​

  • Lead creative work on all elements of brand design and creative campaign design, and create synergy between all aspects for a consistent brand experience​

  • Be a trusted voice for the design team across the wider business, working with multiple stakeholders to ensure design work is delivered to meet both business expectations and high creative standards​

  • Be a guardian of our brand – taking ownership of key brand iconography and protecting it/evolving it where strategically necessary​

  • Manage and lead your team giving regular feedback and coaching. Recognising both talent and development areas, you will create unique plans to progress your team using the tools available 

The Ideal Candidate

  • A creative with vision. With the ability to define and redefine design language and evolve our brand into a bench-mark setting design leader.​

  • A natural leader. With the ability to navigate your team through a complex and fast-paced environment​

  • Commercially astute. You will be attuned to both the Selfridges brand, its competitors, and the wider retail landscape of fashion, accessories, beauty, home, food and drink.​

  • Strategic. You are able translate creative ideas into commercial objectives, and drive change in a big organisation, with equal emphasis on process and outcome​

  • Culturally connected. With a passion for design and a genuine interest in contemporary culture and what’s happening now and next. Your work must speak to the zeitgeist and be able to contribute to both the design and wider cultural conversation​

  • Proven background in designing high-quality work for premium brands with a strong portfolio showing visual and interactive design work​

  • A great communicator. You have excellent influencing and negotiating skills, whilst building professional, lasting relationships at all levels​
