Job Introduction

We are recruiting for a Food Safety Technologist with primary responsibility for our Trafford site, but with occasional travel required to all other Selfridges locations.

Role Responsibility

As part of your role as the Food Safety Technologist, you will:

  • Ensure all food areas within the business are compliant with EU and UK Food Regulations. This includes completing hygiene inspections and due diligence audits and producing reports of findings.
  • Deliver Selfridges’ food safety training programme
  • Ensure all food complaints are investigated in line with internal procedures
  • Support the delivery of an effective Pest Control Management programme
  • Support the delivery of the Micro-Sampling programme
  • Approve product specifications, counter tickets, labelling artwork, menus and/or allergen matrices for food and drink products sold within Selfridges’ Foodhalls and Restaurants
  • Support the on-going review and development of the Food Safety & Quality Management System
  • Ensure best practice is shared across all relevant departments
  • Maintain an effective communication process

You’ll be working collaboratively with a variety of different departments including the Food Technical Team, Food Buying & Merchandising, Retail Operations, Restaurants Operations, Graphics - Ticketing Team, Customer Services, Concession Partners.

The Ideal Candidate

As the Food Safety Technologist, you will:

  • Have a passion for food, food safety and food quality standards
  • Good understanding of food safety legislation and experience of working within the food industry
  • Ability to influence people at all levels
  • Excellent communication/interpersonal skills
  • Have good literacy and numeracy skills
  • Be methodical in your approach with keen attention to detail
  • Have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Be organised with the ability to plan and prioritise different tasks
  • Be a self-starter, able to use own initiative
  • Have strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to work in a team
  • Have a Degree/HND in Food Science, Environmental Health or related discipline
  • Intermediate Food Hygiene (Advanced preferable but not essential)
  • Level 3 HACCP (Qualification preferable but not essential)
  • Group presentation skills (Qualification preferable but not essential)
  • Have competent IT experience (Microsoft Office programmes; Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), web-based programmes & data management systems
