Fire Safety Manager

Role Responsibility
As a Senior Fire Safety Advisor, you will support the lead for fire safety management across the organisation, most notably in executing the various fire strategies and ensuring compliance with the Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order (RRFSO). To provide technical knowledge and guidance where required to internal stakeholders.
As a Senior Fire Safety Advisor, you will:
Lead and Advise
- Be the first point of contact for technical queries relating to fire and life safety
- Ensure compliance with the Fire Strategies within the business, particularly during project and construction works
- Support achieving compliance with the Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order (2005), specifically Part 1, Article 5 and Part 2, Articles 8-23
- Support in the undertaking of Fire Risk Assessments and ensuring recommendations are considered and action taken against them in a timely manner
Influence and Engage
- Work closely with Selfridges’ Design and Projects teams to ensure fire and life safety is considered at each relevant stage and that Selfridges’ fire strategies are implemented
- Improve the awareness and understanding of the responsibilities relating to fire safety amongst stakeholders and in doing so, positively influence the behaviours of their teams and improve fire safety management within our business
- Be curious and challenging when interacting with stakeholders to gain better insight
- Support the continuous improvement of fire safety throughout the business through the creation of initiatives, education and completion of identified improvements
- Create robust policies and raise awareness of these policies amongst relevant parties
Reporting
- Analyse data from both leading and lacking indicators and produce monthly reports for all stores and areas of the business
- Work with key stakeholders discussing findings of data analysis and the impact on their activity – lowering risks, increasing knowledge and improving behaviours and performance
Training
- Proactively identify training needs and opportunities and support the delivery of them to relevant parties throughout the business
- Including fire panel management, alarm response, use of fire-fighting equipment and front and back of house emergency procedures
The Ideal Candidate
Qualifications/ Training:
- Desirable - membership of IFE or IFSM
- Desirable - qualification in fire safety management or fire engineering at Degree or Diploma level (or equivalent)
Experience:
- Currently working in a fire management role dispensing technical advice
- Working knowledge of BS9999 Fire safety in the design, management and use of buildings - Code of practice and Building Regulations - Approved Document B Part 2
- Liaising with enforcing authorities
- Working with Architects, Designers, Project Managers, Engineers and Building Control Officers
- Understanding of Building Control processes and Fire Safety regulations
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment, undergoing regular change and growth
Technical Skills:
- Understanding of fire safety systems and fire prevention systems
- Sound knowledge of fire safety standards and guidance documents (as mentioned above BS9999 and Approved Document B Part 2)
- Use of MS Office

- Strong at building working relationships with key stakeholders across all levels – highly approachable and a strong communicator with the ability to influence behaviours
- Responsible, able to support the lead of the fire safety function
- Ability to work to tight deadlines in a very fast paced environment
- Highly self-motivated individual with strong prioritisation skills
- Flexible approach to suit the needs of the business with a high level of care taken in each task
- Strong team player but can also work autonomously to deliver results
