Dev Ops Lead

Role Responsibility

Based in our London or Leicester offices you’ll provide a unique and tailored service in IT to customers both internally and externally, going beyond the ordinary to create memorable interactions and deliver. We are transforming our Selfridges platforms using the latest technologies. As the DevOps Lead, you will be assisting with the design and implementation of the cloud platform, that is key for Selfridges success, while championing the IaC, CI/CD and cloud practices across the business.​

You will be working with the Principle DevOps Engineering and DevOps team to create and refine current solutions, while continuously evolving the underlying technology of our applications and infrastructure, as well as improving processes and standards to ensure the continuous delivery of customer value.​

As part of a platform-focused team, you will engage with other tech teams, product and leadership to expand the breadth and depth of our technical capabilities, helping us meet the needs of our growing business.​

You will be accountable for:​

  • Designing, building, and maintaining a platform that addresses the business needs and continuously improves the efficiency for its users.​

  • Ensuring the cloud platform provisioning process is consistent, aiming to increase operational availability, repeatability & efficiency, while ensuring control, policies and auditing are in place.​

  • Advancing innovation efforts to enable the evolution and continuous improvement of all cloud products and processes.​

Key responsibilities will include:​

  • Maintain a customer-centric approach with a focus on user experience, while increasing reliability, availability, security, scalability, observability and supportability of the platform.​

  • Implement and own best practices across the cloud platform products and processes.​

  • Validate proposed approaches and designs and align with our guiding principles, refining as needed.​

  • Engage with other cross-functional teams across tech and other areas of the organisation as necessary, to collaborate, support, and gain the knowledge and context that will allow you to evolve and improve how we deliver customer value.​

  • Embrace a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the DevOps team, adopting fast prototyping techniques and continuous exploration of new ideas.​

  • You will work closely with onsite infrastructure teams, release and environment teams, engineering, delivery and QA.​

  • Lead the team of DevOps Engineers including activities such as backlog grooming and stand ups.

 

 

 

The Ideal Candidate

As the Lead DevOps Engineer, you will be accountable for all aspects of the department, by managing and leading your team confidently to deliver an extraordinary customer experience. Underpinning this is the ability to promote the company values, to lead the team to live them and exceed individual and departmental indicators.​

This is a thrilling opportunity and when you consider all of the exciting new projects we have coming up this year, this role will take you on a journey. ​

Experience​

  • Strong AWS experience is critical for this role with a focus on serverless (API-Gateway, Lambda, Fargate)​

  • Strong Terraform skills, and experience building reusable modules.​

  • Knowledge of CDN (Cloudflare, Fastly, Cloudfront)​

  • Experience with Containerisation (ECS, Kubernetes)​

  • Solid experience designing and implementing deployment pipelines (Gitlab, Github Actions / Jenkins)​

  • Good understanding of core infrastructure services and networking (WAF, NAT, TGW)​

  • An Agile background/culture, preferably working with scrum or Kanban teams.​

  • Experience of moving monoliths (and associated deployments) to more modern architectures would be advantageous.​
