Job Introduction

Job Purpose:

The Design Manager, is a key role within the Visual Projects team that plays a vital part of the creative driving force within the physical space at Selfridges. Working closely with the Head of Visual Projects and the wider creative teams in the business the Design Manager will plan, produce and install exceptional project delivery across all stores, which assists in promoting our brand positioning and vision and purpose to provide our customers with extraordinary experiences. The role has a key focus on scheme lead design initiatives, including Christmas, in all stores, with Visual Projects Coordinator reporting directly.

Job Scope:

We are looking for an experienced Design Manager who will consistently drive and maintain world-class standards. With a hand’s on approach and flexible management style we are looking for a person that has the following skills: 

  • The ability to manage assorted projects simultaneously and independently. 
  • Managing relationships with internal teams, brands, contractors & suppliers 
  • Effective & efficient communication with line manager on current focus, priorities and current workload. 
  • Role models company values and principles 

Key Responsibilities:

People 

  • Leads by example – promotes and sets standards which meet our values and guiding principles. Proven line management experience.
  • Seek to continually raise the benchmark and improve standards through ongoing development, coaching and performance management of themselves 
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures, e.g. absences, time and attendance and holidays, etc. 

Service

  • Have a good understanding of new production techniques and materials to ensure we are always pushing the boundaries and communicating this to the wider creative community 
  • Supports the Visual Projects team on all expenditure, including, expenses, invoices, purchase orders. Maintaining all trackers for schemes and projects. 
  • Working on the practical realisation of projects. 
  • Liaising with suppliers to resolve all elements of build & achieving a high level of finish on all projects and ensuring smooth delivery of installations. 
  • Consider both the internal and external customer in all activities. 

Environment 

  • Looks for and introduces ways to improve efficiency and sustainability.
  • Adheres to H & S standards, policies and procedures 

Profit 

  • Manage budgets for their relevant projects.  Contributing to the upkeep of trackers for Visual Projects team.
  • Ensuring the Purchase Order & tracker system is adhered to for all orders 
  • Manage invoice sign off & any discrepancies in ordering process 

Key Skills:

  • Great planning, time management, prioritising and organisational skills 
  • Ability to work as an individual and part of a team
  • Minimum 3 years line management experience.
  • Creative understanding & ability to translate this into practical solutions 
  • Good communication skills and the ability to connect with different levels of the business 
  • Managing timelines & budgets to deliver projects on time & budget 
  • CAD & Adobe Suite experience preferred.
  • Educated to degree level in design related field
